Climate control is very important to a productive workplace and overall worker satisfaction, yet we at [Company] are forced daily to deal with no air conditioning while we work. As climate temperatures rise and extreme weather events are the new normal, it is imperative that [Company] take appropriate temperature control measures now. We all deserve to be comfortable at work, and without A/C, we cannot live up to our potential as employees of [Company] .

Overheating at work is a serious problem that can have major impacts on employee health. While many of our team are able to suffer through the heat, some of our coworkers have medical issues that are worsened by heat. Along with fostering a comfortable work environment, [Company] can avoid worker’s compensation problems by not continuing to allow employees to work in the heat.

While there is no OSHA standard for acceptable temperatures in the workplace, they do advise temperatures should range from 68-76. We’ve recently recorded 81 in the south area of the building.

Working in the heat without A/C doesn’t just harm [Company] employees — it also presents a negative image to any customer or shareholder who may stop by. Employees will not look their best when sweating through their clothes and the heat inside will be noticeable, both of which puts the company in a bad light.

We are demanding that [Company] :

  • Immediately install enough air conditioning to cover all areas of the premises.
  • Do regular maintenance on all A/C units should they stop working.
  • Compensate employees with a stated history of medical issues whose health was worsened by working without A/C.
  • When temperatures reach an agreed upon threshold, allow any employee who requests to work from home the opportunity to do so.
