We demand that [Company] require all in-store customers to use proper face coverings until the city vaccination rate reaches 75%.

This is not the time to let our guard down by easing common-sense safety measures. Currently, our region is experiencing one of the worst outbreaks of the Delta variant of the coronavirus. Studies have shown that Delta is far more contagious than other variants. It may also be more likely to cause hospitalization and death, especially among unvaccinated people. This is particularly concerning given the low rate of vaccination among the [Company] community.

We understand that mask use is unpopular among some of our customers. However, we urge management to put politics aside and treat this as an issue of workplace safety. The current outbreak of this highly transmissible, deadly virus—combined with low rates of vaccination and unenforced mask use—create the perfect conditions for a Covid-19 outbreak right here at [Company] .

Such an outbreak would have a negative net impact for the [Company] community. Infections could lead to illness, hospitalization, or death for employees, customers, or managers. It might even be necessary to temporarily close the store. This would damage [Company] ’s reputation and business operations, leaving us unable to serve our neighbors who rely on us for fresh groceries and basic food staples.

We demand that:

  • [Company] take the minimum precaution to avoid this situation—by immediately requiring all in-store customers to wear proper face coverings until the city vaccination rate reaches 75%, or until health authorities declare an end to the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Additionally, [Company] must post a sign at the entrance of all stores indicating a zero tolerance policy for not wearing masks.
  • Finally, [Company] must assign a manager to monitor mask use during each shift.

The proper use of masks has been proven to decrease the daily growth rate of Covid-19 cases by around 40%. In short, masks mean fewer sick employees and customers, and a greater opportunity to keep growing our business and serving our community.
